Indigenous Tales of the Paranormal (9 mins)This piece explores an area of the paranormal that illuminates the difference between western and Indigenous cultures – the study of “haunted” objects. A theme particularly prevalent in pop culture today. This entryway leads into some great storytelling. “This world would be a far richer, healthier, more thought-provoking place if we gave everyone the opportunity to share. Question everything. Dare to open your mind to unfamiliar possibilities.”

The Dreams of Gaza’s Kids, and the Nightmare They Are Living (video; 2.5 mins)We often measure the tragedy of war in the suffering of children, but we rarely hear from them. Two years ago, filmmakers asked children in Gaza, where nearly half the population is under 18, “What is your dream?” The video reveals their answers which, in light of the recent violence, are all the more devastating.

Let’s Get Creative (collection of creativity tools)Bryan Braun’s side project is a collection of high-quality, free, online creativity tools. It’s intended to be a bookmarkable creativity resource for adults and kids alike. My favourites are Townscaper and Beepbox. And if there’s a tool you know of that ought to be on the list, you can add it to the contributing doc. “I’m not sure why I like them so much. I think they just live at the intersection of a lot of my interests. They use cool front-end web technologies. They encourage exploration and experimentation. They give you superpowers and an opportunity to exercise your agency. In a world of streaming services and bed-rotting, I’ve developed a strong belief that the future belongs to creators.”

The Deadly Maui Inferno, Hour By Hour (interactive; 20 mins)The recent devastating wildfire that raged through Lahaina in Hawaii – which killed at least 99 people and destroyed more than 80% of the town – is documented via this interactive feature from the New York Times, which uses video evidence, data, and interviews to reconstruct the events of August 8th.

Watch This Guy Work, And You’ll Finally Understand the TikTok Era (35 mins)The creator economy is projected to be worth $480 billion by 2027. But it’s fragmented and chaotic. This piece takes a look at the work of 25/7 Media, a talent management startup, and follows talent manager Ursus Magana for a deep-dive into the business.

How to Turn Views Into Action with Interactive Video (4 mins)Vimeo have added interactive tools to their video hosting. From integrated quizzes to choose-your-own-adventure style formats, engagement is at the centre of the new offering. This piece from It’s Nice That provides a good overview of what’s to come.

10 Underrated Movies Recommended by Werner Herzog (5 mins)"I don’t watch films," Werner Herzog has said. “People always believe that a filmmaker would have seen hundreds or thousands of films [...] I don’t. I see about three films per year."

How The Conjuring Became the Marvel of Horror (video; 8 mins)The Conjuring has become the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. Unlike other franchises – Scream, Halloween, The Exorcist – every new film pulls from real-life hauntings, based on the case files of two of the most famous paranormal investigators of all time: Ed and Lorraine Warren. This short video from Vox explores the development of this cinematic universe.

Prioritisation for Content Teams: a Guide (16 mins)Here’s some good in-depth advice from Lauren Pope on prioritisation, including frameworks, common pitfalls and understanding your context.
